Recording computer actions is probably the best solution for providing instructions, illustrating tutorials or presenting a new application. Windows does not include any screen recording functions, but you can find many applications to compensate for its shortcomings. With SMRecorder, you may capture any motion on your screen, record your voice, synchronize the sound with the video playback and more. The application is simple and straightforward and it does not slow you down with more options than you actually need.

SMRecorder is compatible with multiple Windows platforms, from Win 2000 to Win 7. The software is free and it should take about a minute to install it. When the process is complete, the setup wizard may add a few extra tools on your default web browser.

The application's compact interface consists of a few options that allow you to start a new recording, paus or stop the current one, open the output folder and add annotations on the screen. You can also find a conversion option, but it requires a separate application. If you want to start a new recording, you have to make a series of configurations on a tabbed window.

SMRecorder allows you to record the entire screen or a certain region, which you can select with a rectangle tool. Additionally, you may select an audio input device, select a predefined duration for your recording and choose what actions to execute when the recording is finished. Video and audio adjustments are made on separate tabs. You can adjust the compression quality, select a different framerate, change the audio volume, sample frequency and so on.

If you need to record your voice without recording the screen, you must select the appropriate option from a drop menu located on the same configurations window. Besides recording the screen and your voice, SMRecorder can also record with your webcam. You may configure this task in a similar fashion. Just select your video and audio input devices, make a few adjustments and click an OK button to get started.
